The Business of Writing for Children - Aaron Shepard

(library; reading because Doug Rand and I are trying to get serious about a kids' book idea)
Among the several books on writing, illustrating, designing, marketing, publishing, and selling children's books I found in the library, I read this one first because, well, it's short. I was pleased to find that it's actually fairly good (I make my judgment here not having read any others yet), offering advice on everything from how to improve your writing to what sorts of things to pay attention to if/when you actually get a contract. It makes me wonder what's in all those other books that makes them so long ... guess I'll find out next. The book is definitely geared towards writers, though, not illustrators, and he doesn't offer much in the way of tips for illustrators.
