(discovered while unpacking at Waldenbooks)
This is a novel for "Intermediates" (ages 9-12, according to Waldenbooks, anyway) written as a series of poetry assignments by a boy named Jack. He starts off not wanting to write poetry and eventually begins to understand the power of words. It's about his teacher, his dog, and his new hero, the poet Mr. Walter Dean Myers who inspires him with his poem "Love That Boy." The book also includes most of the poems that the teacher uses in class, so you can read for yourself what Jack is talking about. Short and sweet and clever.
