Shaun Tan is an amazing illustrator. I've been trying to get a hold of "The Lost Thing" ever since seeing some of his artwork in Spectrum 8, a book of fantasy and sci-fi artwork. I haven't found it yet, but I came across The Red Tree in the store. The artwork is a combination of painting and collage, a little like Lane Smith's work but a lot moodier. There's not a lot of text (I could pretty much put the entire text of the book right here), but it's a neat series of thoughts about having a bad day which gets a bit better at the end.
