I saw a review of this book in a parenting magazine and checked it out from the library for Ridley. Lionni is also the author of lots of other children's picture books (including Swimmy, which we own), and this one sounded charming.
Pezzettino is a little orange square who lives in a land of other abstract creatures apparently made up of little blocks. He wonders if he's a piece of somebody else, but everyone says they're whole and complete, and so he goes on a quest to discover who he is. It's a little bit like The Missing Piece for the toddler set. The conclusion is fun and just a little bit bizarre, and the illustrations are wonderful.
