I found this at the library for Ridley because I liked the illustration style, and the story turned out to be fun, clever, and based on a true story. In the early twentieth century, people in Englaned hired "knocker-ups" to come around and bang on their windows in the mornings so they could get to work on time. Mary Smith, apparently a real figure, was a knocker-up who used a pea-shooter to wake up her clients. This book shows her making her rounds one morning, shooting dried peas all around town.
Plus, the author's from Portland, Oregon, so that's a bonus, too.
