Salamander Dream - Hope Larson
A sweet little comic divided up into three "chapters," about a girl named Hailey and her encounters with a magical creature named Salamander in the woods behind her house. It's a book about growing up and drifting away from our ability to believe in magic. The drawings are done with a fluid brush-pen line, with occasional images in a rougher crayon-looking texture as Hailey's drawings.
There's not much of a plot; it's more about a mood, and the drawings and sparse dialogue are excellent at pulling you into Salamander's dream-like world. Cute, simple, to the point.
